wow,
google now has an IMService:
talk.google.com
pretty slick, its based on Jabber so it works with other clients as well if you dont want to use the google talk client. Or if
your using MacOSX or *nix.
the client is pretty simple and clean, i like it. I hope the put out an OSX and Linux client but there is no mention of that anywhere so who knows.
there is mention of Google in talks with aol and such so google talk and work with the other networks. now that would be very cool.

NO DRM for apple intel machines?
Linkage
I guess no DRM chips for the new apple machines and i say, thats a good thing. bucause i am sure apple
has something up there sleve when i comes to not only prevent OSX form install on non apple intel box's but:
in protecting music and movie media. and it can be done fairly without restrictive DRM chips built into the machines.
i surely hope that this is the direction apple goes.

Windows and Linux ???
I have been seeing alot of posts on forums and blogs about how if someone does not choose "Linux or "OSS". They are
Foolish or stupid, well I disagree. You use what ever is the best tool for the job and what ever is the best for your
environment.
most company's and larger Corporate shops have many home grown apps, and methodology's they make the place run.
You can not just go into the data center with a Fedora or Debian disk and start reloading all the servers with Linux.
(i love Linux, and admin both Windows and Linux)
in a controlled environment like a corporate shop, things are planned and upper management has a say in what kinds of changes and projects
go down. and in a complex shop telling upper management to dump 10 years of in house software and other mythology's is plain silly.
it all comes down to what is the best tool for the job, as an admin if you come into a shop which happens to be windows "heavy"
and they ask you for a recommendation on something, and the give you requirements like it must be supportable and have some kind of support contract involved.
and say its for hmmm.. scheduling and must support training etc etc etc...
so u hunt around and find a few that fit the bill some none really fit prefect. so you bring writes of a few to the table.
one or two *nix based and one or two Windows based.
after a long eval of each one management likes one of the windows based ones. So you spend a tons of cash on it and roll it out.
your not going to back out of it a couple of years later just because some other OS is 'cooler'
it makes no sense to do that.
BUT, for some environments you can, completly switch to Linux, but many you cant there is just to much infrastructure based on windows based stuff.
BUT what you can do is slowly replace back end infrastructure, like DNS, web, proxy and the like until all you have left is maybe one IIS server, and the domain controllers.
then you can work on the software side which is harder.
all in all, just use the best tool for the job.
